WWJD - If the World Were Perfect

If the World Were Perfect - by Patricia Fripp, CSP, CPAE

Whatever you are about to do, ask yourself,
"If the world were perfect, what would this particular thing look like or be like?"
Of course, it can't be perfect, but too many times we compromise on a compromise, rather than compromising on perfection.
Choose your actions, not for how they affect today, but for where they'll get you a year or five years from now.
What decisions can you make that will get you closer to the place you want to be?
The unsuccessful are looking for pleasing experiences.
The successful are looking for pleasing results.
Have a goal. Know where you are going, and the how will follow.

Still here

So after not even trying this week, I went yesturday and lost 2.8 pounds. I wonder what could have happened if I hadn't eaten that whole bag of kettle cooked bbq chips the day before weigh in. Yes i really did eat the whole back. I wanted them so bad. I just had to have them. Okay, I probably shouldn't have eaten the whole bag, just a few. You know how it is with chips, you just cant stop. I wanted, I took.

Reach Out And Touch Someone

[ open on Elderly Couple seated in their living room ]
Elderly Woman: Arthur?
Elderly Man: What's that, Ma?
Elderly Woman: I've been thinking - Jimmy's been with us for almost three days now. I'll bet his mother misses him.
Elderly Man: Three days, is it?
Elderly Woman: I'm sure she'd love to talk with him. Arthur, supposin' you get him?
[ Elderly Man rises to retrieve Jimmy ]
[ dissolve to Elderly Couple holding the phone for Jimmy ]
Mother on Phone: Hello?
Jimmy: Mommy?
Mother on Phone: Jimmy? Jimmy, is that you?
Jimmy: Hi, Mommy!
Mother on Phone: Oh, baby, I miss you. Are you being a good boy?
Jimmy: Yes, Mommy.
Mother on Phone: Are you brushing your teeth?
Jimmy: Yes, Mommy. I miss you, Mommy.
Mother on Phone: I know you do, swetheart.. I miss you, too. But don't worry, you'll be home soon.
Jingle: "Reach out.. reach out and touch someone.Reach out.. reach out, and just say hi.."
[ Elderly Woman grabs the phone ]
Elderly Woman: Hi. I want that $50,000 in unmarked bills, or you'll never see your kid again.[ pull back to reveal little Jimmy tied with rope, as Elderly Couple shake hands for their kidnapping efforts ]
Jingle: "Reach out.. reach out and touch someone."

So i know that i've been lurking for quite some time - but how come when I decide to discover "it" everyone else goes into hiding???? I am completely overwhelmed by life at this moment - but i am eating sensibly and I even plan to get on the dang treadmill again tomorrow. CHeck with me tomorrow to see if i actually did it. Get this - I went to a old work reunion tonight - fancy restaurant - and ate veggies and a few bites of salmon (no potatoes mind you) Whaddya think of that???
Tad bit hungry at the moment....
feeling like it was worth it though!

why is this night different from all other nights?

because tonight, as well as last night, I ate until I was ill.
the matzah will remain in my colon for weeks.
my hands are sore from washing the good dishes by hand & my feet are swollen because I stood like a shmuck & washed them.
with matzah (lotsa!) love,
le miserable miss gaily...oy, to be jewish...

Stickin' with it

So I overdid it last night at the seder - but I wrote it all down, and Friday was perfect (yes, I still need to get over the all or nothing attitude) BUT - I got off my butt again this morning and went for a walk this morning for 60 (count em) minutes of DURAN DURAN (very good soundtrack for walking - I might add)
I just keep reminding myself that I really do not have any leeway here...
and on I go

Exercise is Fun

NOT!

But i did it yesterday and today - because my pants are tight - and I am tired of feeling bad - and not doing anything about it. So I will get on the dang treadmill again tomorrow. I am trying to get that "IT" feeling back again!!!

Where'd it go???????????????????????????????????????

Why Falling Off The Bandwagon Can Be A Good Thing

I came across this - THE MOST APROPOS ARTICLE IN A LONG TIME!!!
Last week I talked about trying to find the right balance with whatever you do, whether it be with your work and home life, or your productivity and leisure time. Because balance is such an integral part of how we live our lives I believe it deserved a greater look so I began writing this post. However, in researching the issue I came across an interesting correlation between my balance and why I occasionally fall off the bandwagon…

When it comes to balance, it’s easier to just go to one extreme or the other. That’s why most politicians are typically left or right wing and the average footballer is either defense or attack. Balance is difficult, in fact it’s an endless pursuit. You might have it right one day and then the next you’re totally off. It’s always those people who master balance in their respective fields that excel; for instance, Christiano Ronaldo, a famous footballer for Manchester United. Technically he is an attacker yet he covers the entire pitch without hindering the team. He doesn’t need to be tied to one position, he’s smart enough to be always in the right place.
A lot of people have discussed falling off the GTD (GETTING THINGS DONE) bandwagon. I’ve been there multiple times over the last few years and it used to annoy me. Every time it would happen I’d develop a new system and - if it worked well - for the first few weeks I’d be all happy and super-efficient (nicely balanced). Then I’d slump, fluctuate and occasionally hit new highs before I would ultimately “fall over” again (go to an extreme) a few months later. Reading the experiences of others automatically made me assume this was due to flaws in the system and my habits. And, yes, that’s partly the case. But looking back, I think a lot of it was simply down to lack of motivation. My enthusiasm balance was out and I needed to freshen things up.

Next time you fall off the bandwagon, whether it be with your GTD system, an habit you are building or simply with trying to eat healthy and visit the gym, don’t beat yourself up (too much). Rather like a battery needs recharging, sometimes we need to recharge our focus, our enthusiasm, our happiness, etc. There is so much focus on developing THE system that works for you, but instead you should be developing a collection of systems to keep you fresh and more importantly, to allow you to regain the balance you need where appropriate. I’ve juggled between Moleskines, ring binders and my weekly planner, but when my balance is off I can always rely on my notepad.

In summary:
Aim to have balance in your life but know you can’t maintain it 24/7
Don’t rely on just one system. Have a collection of reliable systems you trust in reserve so you can juggle and freshen things up as required.
Don’t assume that just because you’ve fallen off the bandwagon, it’s because your system is flawed. Look at where your head is at.
Follow my advice on maintaining energy levels to keep balance for longer.

did pretty good........

Did pretty good this week. Yesterday I did succumb to 3 or 4 onion rings. I just had to have them!! Am ready for my "weekend", now that I have the next two days off. Will go to my meeting tomorrow and I know I will have success!

survey says...

this weeks sermon was what sparks your salivary glands. is it the food in:
1. your desk draw
2. the freezer (i hide the good stuff behind the veggies & then eat it when everyone else has forgotten about it)
3. the kitchen counter top
4. your car
5. the pantry
6. the fridge (i.e., put good food in front of whip cream)
7. office kitchen - I think this was an option???
8. Blank!!
we were not made to form into small groups. instead, we were given 6.9 seconds to come up with 3 solutions on how to fix the spark. (i.e., put a mouse trap in your desk drawer instead of a little debbie).
it was effective. i have 7 stitches in my finger due to the trap.

An answer...anyone...an answer

For our dear miss mindy! Or did i snooze you all to sleep last thursday night!

I missed you...and was fervently trying to remember any email i had received or post stating that you were missing this past week. sorry to hear about the pain, but i am happy to hear that you are feeling better!

if no one is willing to give an answer...i guess i'll state it:
CLEAN UP YOUR ACT! was basically the message, clean up those environments (i.e. pantry filled with kid's snacks, refrigerators with tons of leftovers, desk drawers stuffed with candies) those places that just don't seem to help YOU lose weight and/or keep it off. Recognize what is working; Remove items if you need to; Replace with better ideas (maybe lighter foods or non-food ideas).

is that what you guys and gals got from it?

If not, I am failing miserably....

Theft Problem: IMPORTANT MESSAGE

You've heard about people who have been abducted and had their kidneys removed by black-market organ thieves.

My thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago. I went to sleep and woke up with someone else's thighs. It was just that quick. The replacements had the texture of cooked oatmeal. Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine? I spent the entire summer looking for my thighs. Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself to living out my life in jeans..

And then the thieves struck again. My butt was next. I knew it was the same gang, because they took pains to match my new rear-end to the thighs they had stuck me with earlier. But my new butt was attached at least three inches lower than my original! I realized I'd have to give up my jeans in favor of long skirts.

Two years ago I realized my arms had been switched. One morning I was fixing my hair and was horrified to see the flesh of my upper arm swing to and fro with the motion of the hairbrush. This was really getting scary - my body was being replaced one section at a time. What could they do to me next?

When my poor neck suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a turkey neck, I decided to tell my story. Women of the world, wake up and smell the coffee! Those 'plastic' surgeons are using REAL replacement body parts - stolen from you and me! The next time someone you know has something 'lifted', look again - was it lifted from you? THIS IS NOT A HOAX. This is happening to women everywhere every night.

WARN YOUR FRIENDS!

P.S. Last year I thought some one had stolen my Boobs. I was lying in bed and they were gone! But when I jumped out of bed, I was relieved to see that they had just been hiding in my armpits as I slept. Now I keep them hidden in my waistband.

How was last night?

For those of you who missed me last night (wait - was Mindy not at the meeting???) I went home and died. My head was splitting, and I barely made it to bed. I am happy to say, I feel a bit more human today, but missed you all last night. I hope to see you all soon. What was the meeting about?

I said I would go and I did!!!

So my usual meeting is Tuesday morn at Upper Dublin. The instructor is nice, but I never felt motivated. After saying I would go to a meeting today, I went to the meeting at noon at Uupper Dublin. The instructor is Andy. She was motivating. The people in the class were also friendly and motivating. So for not going or doing plan for 3 weeks, I lost a 1/4 pound. Hey, I didn't gain.
Went to the grocery store and made real good choices. Today is a new day, and I WILL prevail.

A Post for Gail

OK, I haven't had whipped cream since last WEDNESDAY. If I lose on Thursday night, I can have some during Lost.

I've been getting tons more exercise in - the 2 oldest are doing track and I can walk while they're there. As the weather improves, I hope to get even more in. I'm not really tracking my dinners but trying to be reasonable. I do points for breakfast and lunch, and I'm not a snacker, just a whipped cream whore after the kids are in bed.

Yes, I said WHORE.

Anyway, WW makes chocolate ice cream cups for 2 points. I absolutely must have dessert every night - always have - but clearly I need portion control.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!

I just can't get with it. I need help. I wish I could go to the Thurday night meetings and meet you all in person and have that support. UGH I know I need to help myself before anyone else can help me, it is just so hard!! Why can't I just wake up in the morning and all the unwanted weight be gone. Is there any magic pill for that??????????? Missed my meeting this morning again. Going to check the WW website and find out when the next one is today, and I will be going. I haven't gone in three weeks. I will go today, I WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!

72 hours to go

i'm hangin' - stuffed myself with 28 pts. not much to share. depressed no one else is playing. as the administrator of this master blog, I feel as if I've been let down. no one wants to come to my party. crying the blues...miss gaily

It's freakin tax time....i hate this time of year!!!

And i really believe that fun sized candy should be ZERO freaking points while i am doing my TAXES!!!! for those who don't realize, i DESPISE this time of year...it just bugs me...i feel it's my penalty for being a productive member of society, my punishment for working. oh i could go on and on and on.

BUT I WON'T!
Good going miss gaily, i'm here admiring your work ;) you keep going girl. and i hear you on the chinese, didn't satisfy me yesterday either, just bloated me up, but glad to say that with all the water i drank my fingers are finally back to their normal size! i am taking the day off from tracking, too much other tracking going on regarding the you know what that i said i wouldn't go on about!

but i do believe i'll stop throwing the pieces of candy in my mouth everytime the little dollar amount changes in the corner of my tax software.

so, miss gaily are others at least checking the blog or are we really out here on our own? don't care - i still love the company!!!!

i'll start on monday...

...but I don't need to. my weekend was acceptable. a touch over on my 25 pts per day - but NOT out of sight. tomorrow will be a continuation for this master-blogger. is anyone else actually out there? xoxoxoxox miss gaily
PS: tonight was family chinese night. why was i still hungry after dinner? it cost me 6 pts for a snack! ouch!

Saturday, April 5, 2008

oh what a night!!

The tracks of my mind

I'm on track - did anyone get the memo? Today I consumed 28 pts - my allotment is 25 - BUT I'M ON TRACK!!! I'm not kidding myself any longer. So far, it's been 48 hours. Only 96 more until my hard work is confirmed. i don't need luck, i just need your support. thank you for your support.
xooxoxoxoxox miss gaily

STARTING OVER - AGAIN

Due to my large frame (I've been told I have big bones), I am entitled to 25 pts per day. Today I had 27 & suffice to say, I was satisfied. My tofu surprise was delish & I topped off the day with a kiddie Rita's for 3 pts. Dinner was spaghetti squash with a veggie burger, salsa, vegs, & ff cheese on top. Yum zucki! Off to bed I wander...with Horatio from CSI Miami. xoxoxoxo miss gaily

I agree!

to go along with last night, miss gail's post is fabu!! cravings and urges...gotta deal with, they are there and you must address - or they will take you down!!!

girls(and men) - get a flipping grip...you want to be healthier, thinner versions of what you are right now...don't pretend that you don't...YOU WANT TO BE HEALTHIER, THINNER, HAPPIER WITH YOURSELF...then go get it!

get connected with an honesty buddy! or slim off a few daily points(like miss jodi:) or measure what you are eating! or blog off the steam, instead of eating the chocolate! or go to a "boot camp" to re-focus (like mr. michael)

GET UP AND DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT! and when you're feeling like i just want that little extra, remember that little extra ALWAYS turns into to something bigger - and bigger is NOT always better!

ok - not sure where that list outburst came from...but i'm not deleting ;)

7 Tips About Food Cravings

1. Out of sight is usually not out of mind "Dietary restrictions definitely make cravings worse," warns Drewnowski. Does this mean it's best to give in to food cravings? That probably depends on your level of control once you begin eating. If you're able to satisfy a chocolate craving with a few chocolate kisses or a fun-size Snickers bar, Drewnowski says, "Go for it." But if you are someone whose cravings get out of control (that is, you end up eating half a gallon of ice cream, a bag of chocolate chips, or a box of cookies), it gets more complicated. If this describes you, your best bet may be to have only portion-controlled amounts of your desired food on hand. Buy a single slice of pie or cake instead of a whole one; buy one chocolate-chip cookie instead of baking a batch; or treat yourself to a scoop of ice cream instead of a pint or half-gallon.

2. Make lower-calorie choices when possible. Will lower-calorie craving choices be as satisfying as the real deal? This depends on how great tasting the alternate food or beverages are. If you make lower-calorie, lower-fat brownies that taste just as yummy as regular brownies, they'll probably satisfy your fudge brownie craving. If you crave soda and you drink a glass of half diet soda and half real soda, chances are it will do the trick. When Barbara Rolls, PhD, and colleagues from Pennsylvania State University fed 24 young women at their university laboratory, they found: Women who ate lower-calorie, slightly smaller dishes were no hungrier than those who ate regular dishes. Dieters liked the taste of the lower-calorie dishes just as much as that of the regular dishes.
3. Our environment is toxic Everywhere we turn, our environment seems to be screaming at us to eat more fast food and junk food. "Unhealthy food is highly accessible, it's convenient, it's engineered to taste good, it's heavily promoted, and it's inexpensive. If you wanted to engineer a good food environment, you'd have the reverse of all that," says Kelly D. Brownell, PhD, director of the Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders.
4. Don't let yourself get too hungry What happens when you skip a meal, or refrain from eating when you're truly hungry? Sooner or later, you get SO hungry that you end up overeating to compensate. It's in this state of extreme hunger that we tend to crave quick-fix foods like candy bars. Eating several meals through the day may help to control cravings and binge-type eating.
5. Start a cravings journal If you have a real problem with food cravings, keep a cravings journal for a month. List the times of day you have cravings, the emotions you're feeling at the time, the foods you crave, and what and how much you ate. When you look back through your journal, ask yourself if there are any patterns, such as certain times of day when you tend to experience food cravings. Are there certain emotions or situations that tend to bring them on?
6. Smart carbs to the rescue We've established that our bodies often crave high-fat and high-sugar (or high-refined-carb) foods. And we know that when we feed our stressed-out bodies carbohydrates, it helps calm them down. So the best way to calm our bodies and yet nourish them is to choose "smart carbs" like whole grains, beans, fruits, and vegetables. These foods give your body the carbs it craves along with lasting nutritional power from fiber, phytochemicals, vitamins, and minerals. Craving a grilled cheese sandwich? Make it with whole-wheat bread and reduced-fat cheddar. Craving chocolate cake? Make it from scratch, substituting whole-wheat flour for half the white flour and Splenda for half of the sugar. Cut the recipe's fat in half by substituting some fat-free sour cream. For the rest of the butter or oil the recipe calls for, use a smarter fat like canola oil or a margarine high in monounsaturated fat and plant omega-3s.

7. Take care of yourself Most of us could use a good dose of nurturing. If we take good care of ourselves day to day, we may be less likely to feel stressed, angry, unhappy, etc. -- and therefore less likely to crave comfort foods. If the voice inside you seems to be telling you to indulge in junk food every time you turn around, it may be a red flag that you need some nurturing. Maybe you need some support, time to yourself, or time to play a little. Here are a few non-food ways to nurture yourself, along with their costs: Treat yourself to a facial ($25 on up). Meet a friend for coffee ($2 to $5, depending on how fancy your coffee is and whether you are going Dutch). Read a good book or magazine. You can trade books and magazines with friends, too (free to $10). Get a massage. It can come from a friend or spouse too, which makes it free, although you may need to reciprocate (free to $75). Get a pedicure ($15 to $25). Take a hike -- literally! (free).

welcome wagon

for all of you unplugged folks:
kindly welcome one of the biggest losers I know, Miss Barbara. I'll let her tell you - but she's lost weigh over 100+ pounds of lard. Let's hear it for the band -
With regard for this evening's sermon, when I crave pizza, I toast a flat bread, add sauce & 1 slice of vegan cheese - it's delish! I don't deliver though. Sorry. After being out of class for 3 weeks, I'm up 3.8 pounds of lard. however, margaret arrived & I've been mulching & munching (no, i'm not munching on the mulch). this week will bring ALL of us less of us. REMEMBER, IN BRIDGET WE TRUST. xoxoxoxo miss gaily

A Rose by Any Other Name...

Well, Bridget, how does it feel to be without electricity? I bet your bill has gotten lower! I will not be in attendance this evening, as I must face the stark reality that my baby is no longer a baby. I have to sign him up for Kindergarten! Now I know that many of you have been there and done that, but I am feeling a bit shell shocked... If we get done early enough, I may stop by, but from what I understand, it is a mob scene... I will miss you all.
